I just picked up an 82 D150, slant, 4-speed OD. It came with some extra parts, including a super-six intake. This is one of the two-piece welded versions. I just found a cast iron manifold at a pretty good price. Is there any preference for one style over the other? My immediate plans for the truck are to just clean it up, update and upgrade the usual wear items (brakes, suspension if needed, cooling, etc.) and drive it with the stock 1-BBL. If I go down the road to upgrade the power level, the super-six with one of the RV cams, a bit more compression, and dutra duals would make a nice improvement. The truck is so heavy and aerodymanics-free, that the weight difference between the two manifolds is not a factor. These manifolds aren't exactly growing on trees anymore, if the cast iron version is a good idea I'll pick it up for future plans. |

The aluminum ones had a problem with porous welds and the cast iron ones didn't. If you can get a good price on the cast iron one, I say run it. The last few factory two-piece aluminum intake I have seen had developed cracks in the floor of the intake directly below the carb. That being said, I am always looking for factory aluminum intakes for cheap for future fuel injection projects. |
