Quick one for you guys. 1975 Dodge Coronet /6. 100% Daily driver and work car. I had the trans rebuild 46k miles ago, which is 4 1/2 years ago. Trans fluid has never been changed. Should I do it at this point or has it been too long ? I've had two older cars that had their old trans fluid changed and right away the trans started acting funny, so I know of the possible outcome here. Thanks....

If it is working fine and the fluid looks and smells good (no brown color or burnt smell), then I would leave it alone. If you drive it really hard, then you should probably change fluid and filter.

I agree with Lou.

One of the big reasons that you get slippage when you get the fluid change is that the
mechanic (or worse...the Jiffy Lube tech...) doesn't check the band adjustments and settings that
should be checked while the pan is off... and adjustments for band wear, etc... are not taken taken into
consideration...

My FSM only mentions adjusting the low/reverse band. Is that the only one I need to be concerned with?

I had a '70 valiant SL6, A904 with 80k miles on it when i bought it. I pulled the pan, removed the 1/4" of sludge in it, changed the filter and fluid. Shifted a bit soft when i bought it, but it firmed up after the filter and fluid change, worked great. I suppose I could have adjusted the bands, but it didn't appear to need anything more than some TLC.
