Hello new to the forum and a proud new owner of a 225 slant six. It's in a "1929 Dodge roadster" basically a custom frame and fiberglass body. I've read a bunch of threads on here about gearing and that the /6 cruises well at 2500-2800rpm. I know a lot factors into what determines this so its hard to have a definitive answer but thought I'd ask what you all think. The car probably weighs somewhere around 1500 lbs maybe less. It has 28" narrow tires on it, 904 trans, currently a stock 225 with plans to add a cam, super six intake w/ 2bl. Currently it has a Dana 35 rear with what I believe is 3.07 gears. The previous owner told me since it has these low gears the car usually doesn't shift out of first till 40mph. Gearing calculators online say at 60mph with 3.07s runs at 2270rpms, however accurate they are. Some other options with a Dana 35 are 3.55 or 3.73. the same calculator online said 3.55 60mph @ 2624rpm and 3.73 60mph@ 2758rpm. Any thoughts and past experiences are appreciated! Thanks in advanced!

At that weight with 29" tall tires and no OD Id run the 3.07s

At 4500 lbs with an OD and double your HP with 30" tires Im rocking 3.55s

Thanks for the quick response! ((Edit: they are actually 28" tires but thats a nominal difference. I updated the figures in the original post )) I figured I would drive the car around once I get the trans leak fixed and the seats installed but just figured I'd ask to get the ball rolling.

3.07s for sure with no overdrive. Tall tires will give you comfy cruising at 70-80 MPH.

use the upload tool that is part of the message box that you type in,,,,

you will need to shrink the photo size / pixels to get it uploadable to .org

Here is the best photo i have right now. I am planning on running Dutra duals and run the exhaust along the drivers side of the car.

Very cool! Sounds like a good plan w/exhaust. Hope you can join us at Mason Dixon Dragway in October, even if you just want to come and hang out and meet everyone.

If there is a class for me I will take it down the track! Not sure how competitive my car will be though. Definitely looking forward to getting ideas from everyone on this site!

Any Slant 6 powered vehicle is allowed in our class. Takin' it down the track is the main thing! Great group of folks. Oct 6-7 at Mason-Dixon Dragway in Hagerstown/Boonsboro, MD.

Great! I will post a thread in the engine section with my plan for the engine to get all's input. I probably won't be able to race it this October though but maybe next year. I see there is typically 2 /6 races at Mason Dixon.

Bonkers in a "wow that's pretty cool" way or a "wtf is that/ thats not going to be allowed down the track/through tech inspection"?
