I've got a new to me Dart, the driver side torsion bar is broken, thought at first the shock was collapsed but upon further investigation found the torsion bar broken. Is there any difference in the driver side and passenger side and how do you tell what size the torsion bar is needed to replace the old one? Would post pics but don't know where to post them to re-post them here?? Thanks Steven |

They have numbers on the Hex end - I think on the Rear You probably need to take it out and clean the grease off and look at the 3 digit number and then replace the broken bar with the same #. The L/ R ones are not interchangeable as per the Service manual. They come in matched pairs for example 991 / 990 Greg |

You should replace both sides. Each has the same mileage & fatigue. There are several places that sell new bars in various diameter or in other words spring rate. When I discovered torsion bars on my Dart were miss-match V8 bar on one side and slant six bar on the other, it was a great wallowing hog going down the road. Firm Feel is where I got stiffer replacements; 0.940", another place here, there are more out there. While you are replacing bars you may as well replace all suspension bushings while the front end is partially apart. It will greatly improve ride and handling. |

http://www.manciniracing.com/mop810diam.html Are these good torsion bars and will they work with my car, just want a stock ride? |

Stock 6 bars are .830" I think, those are softer and I wouldn't use them myself. Hit a bump too hard and you may be replacing them again. Brandon |

Wow didn’t realize that so the higher the number the stronger? |

http://firmfeel.com/a_body_mopar_torsion_bars.html so a .880 or .940 might be better? |

I have the factory 340 69 A body bars in my car. Handles fairly good for a car using only factory 69-72 era parts.. Had autocrossed it once and then recently got into some spirited mountain road driving which is a blast. Greg |

I think the SB V8 bars are 0.850". The 0.880" set would work well. I also have a stock set of 0.830"s that you can have for the price of shipping. I may also have a set of the SB V8 bars that I would sell cheap. Best wishes, Lou |
