Howdy, I have a Slant 6 225 engine that was found on a garage floor with an unknown history. It is complete and appears rebuildable. The block has had work done in it in the past, I know this because the pistons/crank bearings are oversize. I am not able to tell what the block serial number is, as the top of the block has been lightly filed, to both clean the blocks’ deck and give the cylinder head gasket surface some ‘tooth’ to mate, and as a result, the front serial number is partially obscured. The stamped serial numbers that are dimly readable on the right side top of block surface next to #1 cylinder are … 3Wxxx225xxxxx4326...the x's are the width of a number space that is either unreadable or blank. There are ‘good, readable’ stamped numbers on the pad on the right side of the engine at #6 cylinder, those numbers are … 4G180767 The block casting numbers are… 2806830-9 There are 5 freeze plugs in the block. It has a forged crank. It has an electronic distributor, a 1920 holley carb and a short oil filter on it. This are my questions: I do not know if the head has already been decked, i.e. if it has had metal machined from the bottom of the head to increase compression. I need to know the stock thickness of the cylinder head. The cylinder head casting number is… 2206085-4 I understand there is a hopup procedure to lightly hone the mechanical lifter bores to increase oil flow. What is the stock lifter bore? I would appreciate it if you would also let me know where your answers came from, from what book/source, or if they are actual measurements that you took. If you have any questions, or better still, information and answers, please let me know, thank you. First, Welcome to the site. Nominal head thickness from deck surface, to valve cover surface, is 3.610 Actual measurements of several heads. |

Charrlie_S, Thank you for your quick response, and, Thank you again, for your welcome to this site. The head measures 3.560 thick, so this head has been machined .050, which means I still have some material left if it is needed to flatten it. I have follow up questions about this cylinder head. There are two casting numbers on this head. One I believe is the head casting number 2206085-4, and the second number might be a casting date number of that series, 06224. There is also a vertical line of letters in the same general area of the head, AAQO, I have no idea what those could signify. For which years would this head have been made? Would it have hardened valve seats? Thanks again. Welcome to Slantsix zukerman. Here is a site that will help decode Mopar casting numbers. This site also has wire diagrams and other Mopar info. |
