My new-to-me ‘63 Dart wagon valve train has more rattle than necessary. Adjusted the valves and the it helped, but still ticking I can hear clearly when next to another car at a light or driving along a solid wall. I have a complete rocker arm shaft with all rocker arms, spacers bolts and whatever else. I’ve inspected the contact surfaces on the arms that contact the valve stem and find some nice and some I can feel a little wear. Search function doesn’t seem helpful on this subject, so I am wondering if anyone has ever taken a stone or sanding block to the rocker arms and clean them up. Looks like this could be done. Does anyone have advice or some wisdom about doing this? Jerry in Denver |

Old Sioux valve facers had an attachment for them just for rocker arms. If you can find somebody with one........ |

Yes, I remember using that souix set up many years ago. I’ll be asking around for someone with that valve grinder. Thanks for the reminder. Jerry |

IMHO, if you cannot hear the valve train ticking at all, they are too tight. Lou |

I agree that silence means too tight. I’m not expecting silence, but there are at least two really loud tickets in there and it drives me nuts. I think I’ll take a shot at cleaning up some rocker arms and see how it goes. The tricky part probably will be getting the surface lightly curved so the contact point can travel over the valve stem smoothly. |

I'm pretty sure I have an NOS set of rocker arms that I will not be using. It might, in fact, be assembled on NOS shafts if I am not mistaken. Would you like to make an offer for them? Mitch |

Well, here it is February and I didn’t see your post ‘til today. I took my rocker arms to the machine shop and had the rocker arms ground. It isn’t as if I blew you off. Didn’t see ‘til today. Not a guru with the computer, so missed it. |
