I do not believe you need High Temp paint on the block or head, or engine tin.

Surface prep is the magic ingredient in getting the paint to stick. It has to be clean and dry.. You can't get the block too clean, or Oil-greast free, before putting new paint on it..

As for the exhaust manifold, the issue is the same, I would sand blast the manifold, then work on it with a de-greaser, Then using the special high Temp paint, may work..

I've never used the stuff, so I do not know anything about it..

On the block, do as Jase says... that's the tried and true method.

For the exhaust manifold, if you are running the cast-iron, get it hot, get the degreaser off of it, and I use black wood stove paint for mine. Seems to hang around quite awhile.
