| Post subject: | My “New” engine |
Hello, I have been looking for a spare slant six engine to build into a blower motor.. Was preferring a running slant, but got a call from a man that pulled a slant from his moms wrecked Volare.(says 80k or so) Then he thought it was a dart. The price was free. So i grabbed it up. At any rate the motor has the small plugs with no tubes. Im guessing its around a 1977 ? It has a factory A/C compressor, and a different carburetor than the Holley 1920 on my driver. But otherwise engine is complete less airfilter assy. Would i be correct in thinking this does not have a forged crankshaft, but solid lifters? Need to degrease/ clean engine to properly i.d. engine. Is this a candidate for a blower motor build, or should i continue looking for a more appropriate year? Thoughts, suggestions? Thanks Russ |

There are some articles in the site index that will help you identify cast vs forged crank engines. Personally, I like the cast engines as they are generally lighter. I don't believe you would have problems supercharging a cast crank engine. It is high RPM/nitrous applications that you might be better served with the forged internals. Others will likely chip in. I would defer to those with experience boosting slants. |
