Has anyone run dcoe 48's or 50's on any slant? Just curious. Greg |

I am wondering the same thing. I have been reading and It seems the dcoe 45's may be slightly too small for what we are trying to do with them. |

Tilley said he tried 48s once and did some dyno testing and the 45s were better. He went up to about 370 crank HP (engine dyno) with 45s. Lou |

Was Cameron Using a Clifford Manifold? Cain? Redline? some aussie Manifold that we don't know about? Greg |

Clifford. Biggest bores/runners of all the DCOE intakes. He tried Redline and I imagine Cain and Clifford was the best. I cannot see why all these intake companies want to skimp on runner size. Lou |

Cool. Wonder if the sizing is as much of an Issue if its' a DCOE style Injected setup? Greg |

Thats interesting about Tilley's findings. Do you happen to know if he was using DCOE 45's and 48's or was he using a DCO-SP 48? It seems the SP series is similar to the DCOE but is their "racing" carb without choke provisions and some of the other fine tuning adjustments. I am really struggling with my DCOE 45's I'm having idle issues, too rich through transition and too lean on the top end. Hopefully it is just tuning/jetting issues but I almost feel like i'd have better luck tuning with a computer/EFI. Not giving up yet, but i definitely need much more consistency for racing.... I am running the clifford manifold and also had it opened up to port match with my cylinder head. On calculators it seems the DCOE 45's are sized very close to what we should be running. I just haven't had any luck tuning them yet. |

IR manifold with EFI would be easier to tune, but probably $2000-3000 and some work to set up. Tilley's 48 tests were probably 10-15 yrs ago. I bet they were regular DCOEs, but I don't know for sure. IR EFI setup could/would have larger bores and no venturis, so more flow potential. Whether this is good or bad compared to 45s, I don't know. Lou |

Ryan, if you dig around Vizard probably has a book out on Weber tuning. I know he touched on them in the Holley book, but did not go into great detail. |

Thanks Dennis, I will try to find that. I have a weber book by Pat Braden that I read which helped with some theory but I will try to find something by Vizard too. One of my big problems has been with a leaking header that throws off the 02 sensor. Hopefully I can fix that over the winter and have some more accurate data. It sounds like my DCOE 45's should be sufficient and my problem is in tuning. I'd rather tune what I have then spend 2 or 3K on fuel injection.....I just don't want to be tuning the car constantly at every race. I have a few things to try at knoxville...hopefully they help it be more consistent. I'd still be interested in knowing if anyone else has ran the bigger DCO carburetors with any success. Also do you think there is any chance Cameron Tilley would share the basic setup (venturi size, jets etc) he ran on his DCOE 45's? I know every Slant is different but i'd be curious to see what he was running. |

I am sure Cameron would share the info if you can get ahold of him and he can find the info. Let's talk at Knoxville... Lou |

I am thinking of going to the EFI Route as I have the 1k invested in the Controller already - prolabalty another 1K in Tb's and Injectors then let the tuning begin again.. Ruster might be fully MS III controlled by the end of 2-3 year's time. Bye- bye Carter 750 carbby... Maybe you will find a new purpose in life on my 69 dart? Greg |

I've been considering efi for my junk. Not sure I'll ever get there, but at least it's on the table. |

Multiport or Ind. Runners or Direct injection - I can't Justify the cost If it's an Injected Wet Manifold. Jus sayin' Greg |
