Hello Again...

I just got a '84 dodge ram pick up for parts with a 225 engine -auto. with a lean burn system. It has an holley 6145 electronic 1 barrel carb, aluminum intake and all the smog stuff . It is very responsive!

Would this setup work(minus the cat. and air pump) well on my '73 dodge power wagon? It has a 1920 holley on it now :cry: . Also, can I use this intake and carb with my exhaust manifold? :?: I know a lot of wiring has to be changed, but that should not be a big problem. I am mainly looking for good fuel economy.

I can not imagine any reason why it would not work.
I own a 1987 truck and do all my own work on it and understand the sysytem on mine. Except mine does not have the O2 feedback carburetor, just a conventional carb from the factory.

Usually only the Calafornia emission stuff had the O2 feedback system with 6145 carb.

Swap the intake and exhaust manifold together. The 6145 O2 feedback system needs the O2 sensor that is screwed into the exhaust manifold. No hole for that on your old manifold.

You will need the distributor with the system from the '84 truck. No vacuum or mechanical advance in it (if I recall correctly). The computer takes care of ignition timing. The distributor just gives the computer a maximum advance signal, the computer adds retard to that signal to produce the required advance curve.

The transmission in the 1984 truck probably has a lock-up torque converter. That will add a bit to MPG.

IMHO-

I would not use the lean-burn ignition. Even the smallest vacuum leak can make the thing go completely haywire. I spent three years attempting to get mine to run right/chasing ignition gremlins, and finally gave up and put an MSD ignition on mine. Never been happier....Excellent throttle response, power, mpg, and no mysterious misfire at idle. I feel the standard electronic ignition is far superior to the lean-burn ignition, and both the standard and aftermarket ignitions (e.g. MSD) are a much easier install (5-6 wires and a vacuum line)

The lean burn system that came on my 83 Power Ram now occupies the darkest corner of my garage.
The truck runs alot better now :lol:
Look for power elsewhere.

Honestly, unless your state has an extra snoopy underhood inspection, you should consider going to either the conventional Chrysler Electronic ignition or one of the aftermarket systems.
Mopar Action magazine did an article about swapping the conventional system in place of the Lean Burn. I think it was Rick Ehrenberg who wrote the article. It was based on V8's, but I was able to use the info to relegate that junky Lean Burn to the trash(where it belongs).
If you're reeeeeeaaaally interested, I can dig up the mag and somehow get the article to you. I throw away Lean Burns, old Mopar mags are for keeps 8)

I would recommend MSD ignition instead of the leanburn. I just put an MSD 6A box on my 84 D100 and it is better then the leanburn. I also used a Blaster II red coil and Accel 8mm spark plug wires. If you live in a state where they check under the hood for inspection just leave the leanburn box bolted to the aircleaner. Most of them probably won't notice anyway. But the MSD kit comes with stickers to put on your truck under the hood if you are subject to California emissions. I noticed a big improvement over the lean burn. I also put in a super six manifold and carb.
