Are slant six main caps and rod caps the same on all 225 engines. I have a bare block for a build but no mains or rod caps. I have a crank and head plus rods and pistons.

I think they are basically the same except for cast cranks but that doesn't mean they interchange. I believe the main bearing bore is machined with the caps in place. and the caps are not located that precisely, so each one becomes mated to it's saddle. You could probably take a small cut off the caps and have them align honed to match the block but it might be easier to just find a block with caps intact.

the cap for the mains and rod must match to either the cast crank or the steel crank,
so they fall in to two families. Within those two families all the main caps belong in a specific location on a specific block
and all the rod caps belong to a specific rod.

, the crank bore of the block is machined with the main caps in place,
just like the big end on the rod, that bore is machined with the rod cap in place.

it is possible to cut the main cap to block mating face, then re cut the crank bore so everything is
concentric and in place, but that will likely be expensive, would be less hassel and money to just get a complete block.

when connecting rods are rebuilt, cutting the faces and re boring the large end is all part of the rebuild process,
so what you are proposing on the rods is within reason, but why not just use the top section of the rods
that you are getting the rod caps from. They can be inspected for size and may not need any rebuild work and money.

where are you located, If you are around central Indiana I know where you can get steel crank block for cheap.

I am in Ga. I will look around locally for a spare block that is rebuildable.

Where in Georgia? I know where you can get a steel crank block cheap that originally came from DadTruck, unless you want to go to Indiana and see DadTruck's amazing truck and Barracuda like I did. I'll even throw in the cylinder head that came off it.

You can also get a set of 440 aluminum main caps and have them machined/align bored to work.
