Is the /6 considered an A engine? I found a pair of solid motor mounts on Mancini's site, and they only show the LH engine mount (which is the right kind). They specify A body mounts for A engines, but I wanted to make sure before putting it on my parts list of things to order. I was originally going to go with rubber mounts and a torque strap, but she says she can deal with lotsa vibrating from solid mounts, so may as well give her what she wants

/6's are G/RG engines.. A are small blocks and B/RB are bigblocks and hemis I think... not sure bout that but I deffinately know /6's are G/RG |

The A engines are small blocks pre 64 and the LA engines are small blocks post 64, with the exception of the 318 which was an A engine until 66. The A engines used a "polysphere" cylinder head while the LA engines used the the "wedge" head. |

Yeah I warned her, but she says she can hack it, so I'll throw in a pair and see how much she really can stand after driving it for a few days. I made a set for my derby cars, pretty easy...pull the sandwiches, get an idea of what to use for metal or a chunk of iron to swap for the rubber...grab a torch, blow the rubber out of the mount, replace with iron and weld.... your are going to be a bit different than a set of 'b' mounts for a spool type mount and a 1964 'L' type mount... my grandfather never recommended them outside of racing since they can goof up some things that like to be dampened before they turn over... happy engineering, -D.Idiot |

That came off both ways.... My grandfather's story went: One of my uncle's shoveled a 392 hemi into a dart before I was born, he decided not to weld up the k-member and use stock set of rubber motor mounts, instead he decided to weld some 1/4" plate engine mounts to bolt to the engine and welded them solidly to the K-member (aww...that engine will never need to come out....). My uncle said it drove great, but the whole car shook like a vibrator, eventually the vibration overcame the the harmonic balancer one day and the hemi busted...he had to get another 392 and cut his mounts and redo them.... a few years later he wrapped that car around a tree or phone pole.... Next time I talk to my uncle I'll have to ask what the 'post-mortem' was like on the hemi...of course he bought the engine for $20 so I'm sure he didn't care and just junked it... -D.Idiot |

Solid motor mounts on a driver Slant will shake stuff loose that you never even knew existed. If it's a big problem that you think you need them, why not just make a torque strap?

...and what's the crank damper (harmonic balancer, or as an ad in my local "advertiser" said, "Harmonica Balance"  ) got to do with solid mounts, anyway?"DW" P. S. - I like the ads for "Elderblock" intakes and "Harley 4 barels", too! |

Hey dude,, Don't go solid! I had pretty good luck with using the same trick these import racers are doing. Fill the voids between the rubber and the steel. You know how it's got those pockets so that things can move around; Well, I fill mine with the same caulk that the windshield guys use to glue down those newer sheilds. It works pretty darn good! I'd try that first. Good Luck! |
