Car Model: 1978 Volare wagon Super Six
Hi All,

I acquired a 1978 Volare wagon with the Super Six, and on its first drive that was longer than about 5 miles, the heater core blew. Vapors coming through the air vent and a big soggy mess in my passenger-side floorboard. In going to replace it, I've looked on both RockAuto and AutoZone, and can only find replacement cores for no A/C cars. While I could certainly bypass the heater core for most of the time (I live in Texas), I'd like to have a "complete" car. Any advice on how/where to track down the proper replacement part?

Just out of curiosity, I checked Rockauto for heater core SIZES for our 1975 Darts. The core dimensions are almost identical (2x6x8) for w/ac and w/o ac, just the plumbing is in different locations. That would be a problem if the plumbing locations are different on the Volare w/ac versus w/o ac.

Look up a 1980 Volare, heater core. They list a few of them with A/C and have pictures of them. I can't imagine that there was any change to Volares from 76-80. I replaced the heater core in my 79 Volare Wagon over 5 years ago, at the time, they were easy to find new.

Yes the 1980 f body heater boxes are slightly redesigned and different than the 76-79 ones.

I know for sure the 1980 evap core will not drop in a 1979.. I would assume the heater core is the same issue.

Maybe this can work above.
