Should I use soluble oil in my radiator - I have a slant 6 engine? If soluble oil is suitable for use in the radiator/engine what quantity should I use? |

*******************************************************************If soluble oil is suitable for use in the radiator/engine what quantity should I use? You mean, in addition to an ethylene glycol anti freeze? Why, and where did you hear this? Roger |

Don't do it.If soluble oil is suitable for use in the radiator/engine what quantity should I use? Years ago the owner of the company I worked for put soluble oil in the cooling system of his early 80s Cadillac. I guess he though it would lubricate the water pump and save him a few bucks by extending the life of the pump. Well... it ruined all the hoses and cost him a bundle to have them all replaced. That Caddy was a nightmare under the hood and it was a big job. |

*******************************************************************************Very valid point. Not all "soft" under hood materials are oil resistant or proof.. It might take a month after addition, but they will deteriorate, leaving you with a possibly expensive mistake to correct. Roger |

Soluble oil is a product of the bad old days before permanent ethylene glycol coolants. Just don't go there. If you want to use it you might as well do a lube job and oil change every 1000 miles. Also discontinue use of seat belts, antibiotics, vaccines and anything else invented since WW2. |

From my limited knowledge, soluble oil is a metal cutting coolant and lubricant, why on earth would you use this in your cooling system? it was designed for a completely different purpose. b |
