Fellas,

I finally found the problem with my slant six. TOO MUCH CAMSHAFT. Couldn't find any good info or cams anywhere. Maybe I didn't look hard enough. Anyway, I'm gonna get my old camshaft reground. Does anybody have the Marine or RV slant six cam specs?? Or, does anybody have any recommendation in general?? Remember, this is a 1bbl (someday 2bbl) with no headers, and a 3.55 rearend in an A-100.

Thanks,

Tim in Detroit

I didn't see your first posting about this...what was your profile?

Comp Cams 252S is about as RV as you want for a cam and works well with stock exhaust and 3.55 gearing....

Duration @ .050 215/215 LSA 110 degrees .435 gross valve lift

Mopar Perf base cam (not much better than stock):

Advert duration 244/244 Overlap 28 degrees .436" lift Cam Center line 108 degrees...

???

Tim,
What cam do you have in the engine?
Below are the factory specs, the 244 with 26 degrees overlap is a good "stock" grind.

There is a big "no mans land" between the 244 and the 260 degrees, the Crane 252 is the only one I know of in that area and it's not that good of a grind.

I have done some customs in the 240 - 250 area that have worked well. Limit the lift to around .450 and put the grind on a 110 - 112 lobe center separation. (Lobe angle)

The real trick is to find a mild "high energy" mechanical lobe profile, one designed with faster (.904) lifter rise. The other trick is to have a soft lash ramp so the lash can be kept tight for less noise and wear.

OK, I will be honest, I am working with a local cam grinder to develop a nice "street grind" for a slant. My hope is that this new cam profile will idle and lash like a stock cam but have a much wider power band, my goal is for it to pull hard up to 5000 RPM.
Stay tuned.
