Hello all, I'm new to the slant six's, I've got a 1967 Dodge Dart 270 with the 225 and 904A. I had just rebuilt the motor with a comp cams K64-241-4 high energy cam kit, bored the cylinders over 30 and milled the deck .100 I was told I had to use a higher stall torque converter with the cam kit I had gotten. The basic operating rpm is 1,200 - 5,000 and with a 050inch life of 220. I got a hughes performance torque converter and quickly found out what the difference between the 67 torque converters and the 68 torque converters. My question is the back on the crankshaft will not fit on to the torque converter because of the different size of that button on the back of the torque converter, would I be able to machine out some of the metal in the back of the crankshaft to get the torque conver to fit, should I get a custom torque converter made between the new and old converters or could I just still used the OEM converter.

You have 2 issues. One you already found with the crank/pilot, the other is the spline count on the transmission input shaft is wrong. The converter will go on, but the trans will not work.

I'm not for sure anyone still makes a small pilot small input converter.

Call Andre at Edge racing converters, He might be able to do a "small" converter.

If he can't help you, get back to me. I have a 10 inch edge converter that will stall 2800 with 250 ft/lbs torque input. It is small pilot / small spline input shaft. Just not sure if I want to sell it.

It's not a 27 spline trans? I counted the splines around the tranny shaft and thought I counted 27? Maybe I missed a few. I'm missing some info on this I guess.

Thank you, I'll look into that.

60 - 67 904's were 18 spline on a 3/4 diameter input shaft.
68 and up are 27 spline on a 7/8 diameter shaft. Lock up versions were 26 spline and have a oil feed hole in the shaft.

Alright yeap, I just checked it. I guess I counted 27 on the pump spline not the imput shaft, guess I can't use that torque converter for this motor and trans. I do have another it'll work on. Thank you very much.
