Pallet Shelving would work well or Build a ~2'x~2'x3' Box/ Shelf out of 4x4 and 2x4 Wood Timbers. Use Deck Screws to hold it all together. Drain Fluids out of engine before tipping 'em up. Greg |

I currently am storing a 360, a 225, a 2.4, and a 904 under my workbench. The 225 is laying on its manifold side on top of a furniture dolly. It is fully dressed with all tin and external attachments except the alternator, alternator bracket, and the manifolds. You can store a bare slant block on end but leaving the crank in will be hard on the thrust bearings and will make the block wobbly and pront to tipping. You can also store a bare block sitting flat on the pan rail, but it will actually be resting on the main bearing caps. I don't think you can store it like that with a crank in place because there will always be a crank counterweight or two keeping the engine off the ground. Laying the slant on the manifold side on a furniture dolly is the most compact way I have found to store a slant six. If you are handy with a welder you could fabricate an engine dolly on wheels like you can buy for smallblocks. |

I was kinda hoping someone came up with a stacking method that was simple.i have considered on end, but the cranks are in place..I guess a need to make shelving on wheels and stack 1 per shelve.. |

A couple of 2x4s on the bell housing end work nicely. I have 2 blocks and one fully assembled engine stored that way. |

You can put 2x4 on the bell end and stand it up, or go crank nose down with a 3x3 or 4x4 pending on if you are using pallete scraps for least cost. I wouldn't go over 2 blocks tall without a crane or something, if something gets wobbly or you get an earthquake they are going over and anything in the fall path ain't going to be intact... Currently I have a bunch of blocks on the back of my shop the bottom row has the pan rails sitting on 4x4 (I bagged them before setting them) They don't have heads installed, so I put a 2x6 chunk on the head surface (outside the plastic bag), then ran a bunch of scrap 2x4 across like a shelf. The next row the blocks are head surface down on the 2x4...then next row would have 4x4 on the pan rails and another run of 2x4 and I'd do it again... I also have a 4x4 pallet full of 225 heads of various years all bagged, mating surface down on the first row, then 1x4 across the top of the head (I pulled the rocker shafts for storage in a tote), then another row of bagged heads on top of the 1x4 mating surface down... If the engine is staying fairly complete and not on an engine stand, you can put it on a harbor freight movers dolly with some wood block under the oil pump body, motor mounts, and the front oil pan rail to keep it from rolling over while moving it around (or rolling under your work bench for the rainy day... It makes a big difference to first determine if you need access to them or not. The way it usually works when you stack up a bunch of engines is....you need to get the one at the back of the stack out first. |

that is a good point, the stored engines need to swapped around periodicallysimilar to how barrels of whiskey are moved around in the ageing process. The best way to do that is to sell and buy back the same parts and engines with in a circle of friends. |

I store them on the small HF dolly, rear end down. If the head is off, it will fit on the dolly as well, I just strap them together so they don't slop all over. That way I can roll them around as needed. Right there with you, Dad Truck! Sure as hell whatever I need is at the back of the shelf, and I'm so stuffed on storage it's like a jigsaw puzzle getting everything to fit. It takes a while to move the front stuff out to get the the rear stuff, and then reverse the process when done.
