Do any of you know of a non-custom head gasket that has a compressed thickness of more than .041"? Thanks, Brad |

Edurotec from Aussie is about 0.047" compressed. I have doubled up Felpros before to get 0.068" or so and drop compression ratio. Spray copper in between. Bet it would work well with aussie gasket too. Torqued bolts to 90 ft-lbs and fine racing at ~10:1 comp (after drop from ~11:1 w/1 gasket). Lou |

Thanks Lou. What head gasket set up are you using for your boosted engines? O-rings? Brad |

Endurotec (Aussie made). We should check if these are still made and do a group order. The community would love you for it... The exchange rate is awesome right now (70 cents US to $1 AU). No O-rings. Good to about 12:1 NA and who knows boosted. Lou |

That is the number I have always heard too. So I kept my car at 11.5 to 1. However Ryan's race car ran an entire season and was probably run as hard as anyone, and he is at over 13 to 1. So there may be a little more of a safety margin there than we think.

How do the old shim stock OEM gaskets perform at high compression or boost? |

If all surfaces dead flat, probably they will hold until you melt a piston or deform something else... Assuming you torque the bolts/studs higher than stock (85+ ft-lbs)... Lou |

Seasons greetings from Brisbane, Australia all! Lou, thanks for the info regarding doubling up on head gaskets and the Edurotec compressed thickness. I didn't realise this was a potential option to lower my CR. Are there any other "tricks of the trade" for doubling up on the gaskets other than copper spray? Is there a preference in which gaskets to use? Felpro and Edurotec are available to me. I was going to replace my "worked" head with a reconditioned "stock" unit, but might try this (and use the recoe'd unit elsewhere...). The car has gone from a daily driver to a weekend cruiser and had experienced some minor pinging on highway under certain specific) circumstances. In my case, 2 Felpro gaskets would drop CR to 9.45, and 2 Edurotec gaskets to 9.0. (see engine build details below). Cyl Bore Diameter 3.46 in. Eng Stroke 4.125 in. Number of Cyl 6. Combustion Chamber Volume 52 cc. Piston Crown to Block Deck Face 0.080 in. Piston Valve Relef Volumes 0 cc. Compressed Gasket Thickness 0.040 in. Gasket Average Bore Diameter 3.525 in. Piston Dome Volume 0 cc. Piston Dish Volume 0 cc. Outside Diameter of the Piston at Top Land 3.428 in. Dimension Piston Crown to Top Ring Groove 0.326 in. Engine Capacity 3813.462 cc. or 232.712 ci. Compression Ratio 9.8716:1 Calculated via a "Columbus" Compression Ratio/Capacity Calculator. Thanks again guys. Bare Metal Maz |

Hi Maz, All I know is that one time I took a pair of Felpro gaskets, sprayed copped between them and bolted it together. It held at about 10:1 comp for several years with plenty of beatings. The Endurotec should be a much better gasket than the Felpro (race tested by many, including Cameron Tilley), but I have not tried it with that. I think torqueing above the stock spec will be needed to make this work. Cheers and happy building! Lou |

Cheers Lou. Appreciate the quick reply. With the Endurotec (Permaseal) gaskets extra bore size (3.66) + compressed thickness (0.047), changing over from the Felpro should bring my CR down by 0.32 to 9.55. I reckon I could work with that number. In any case, will be interesting to see what effect it will have on my combo. Thanks again! |

Hi Maz, Yep, sounds like a plan. 9.5:1 is a nice street-friendly compression ratio. You can probably get those gaskets around Aussie at parts stores. I have ordered them from Precision International (in VIC). https://www.precisionintl.com/StockSear ... ant&Page=1 GSAP210E - head gasket only GSCP210E - full engine gasket set They also have head gasket sets (with top end gaskets) and others for the Slant. I wonder if anyone on the Slant 6 site (from America) would be interested if I ordered/shipped a bunch as a group buy?? Cheers, Lou |

My guesstimate is the head gaskets would be around $40-50 shipped to me and then I would hand them out at races/events or you pay extra shipping and boxing. Lou |
