hello, back to the site once again in need. I have a 73 Scamp with a Carter BBD that has been all rebuilt and has tuning problems. I can not seem to get the mix steady enough. Every now and then the motor will chug violently (and spin the opposite way) when I shut it off and push smoke out of the air cleaner. It seems to drive good. I have followed many instructions on how to tune it but it always diesels whether it is hot or not. I am thinking it could be the timing chain? The motor has 82,000 original. I checked valve lash and did all the regular tune up stuff when I bought it, everything old has been replaced. Please throw in some ideas. I am also getting ready to do a suspension upgrade to a 1" swaybar/poly kit/12" discs and I have aquired LCA from a 68 Dart with the sway tabs. Is there any problems known fitting those LCAs on my Scamp? Thanks for all the help past/present/future.

What is the idle RPM set at?
How much initial timing does it have at hot idle?

It sounds like you may have to turn the idle down to prevent the "run-on".
