Reverting back to steel head gasket to bring up compression from 9.6:1 to 10.1:1 on summer of 2018 engine rebuild with about 2500 miles of running. I want to pull head as there is a valve or two intermittently sticking open of the back three, probably due to me having lash too tight. I want to get a look at what is going on, and lap in offending valve if needed while engine is out of car for timing cover oil leak fix. FSM said to use MoPar sealer #1057794. What would one use for a product today to accomplish the same task? If block and head surface is still fresh looking should I scuff it up with a 3M pad or only scuff it surface looks a bit discolored. I assume builder did not apply any sealant to aftermarket head gasket. |

I don't see the relation between lash and sticking. I'd avoid any Scotchbrite on the head or block surfaces. Scotchcbrite removes metal, plain and simple. If I were installing a steel shim head gasket, I'd use a spray product to coat both sides. I'd either use Copper Coat or....in the olden days it was common to use silver/aluminum spray paint. |

Use this stuff... https://www.permatex.com/products/gaske ... p-sealant/ Get at your o'Rieley's / Advance / napa / local parts house. Easy to use. Spray both sides. Works like that fsm sealer stuff. Used it on a few builds up to 13.5 compression. Greg |
