As some here may know I've recently been after an exhaust manifold for my newly acquired 85 D150. Not finding much laying around any more, anxious to hear this engine run. I am ABSOLUTELY NOT a fan of chineseium, but the price of the new ones seen on epay seems tempting. Anybody have any experience with one of those manifolds? |

I bought one of the cheap eBay units and the casting was pretty bad. I had to do quite a bit of grinding to make it acceptable. If I were to do it again, I'd spend the extra and get one of the Dorman units. jus sayin..... |

While I am not wanting to spend$270 on an exhaust manifold for a truck with an engine that I have yet to be able to hear it run because of it, I am on the last day of a 3 day weekend and went on a 2-1/2 hour (each way) ride Saturday to a yard"guaranteed" to have what I need, but when I got there both of them that they had were in trucks marked"good motor" on the hood meaning that they wouldn't split up the manifolds from the rest And I'm not wanting to buy a whole engine for a manifold. (Dad truck and wvenable may be familiar with that yard it was down their way) Yesterday I went to a Mopar only swap meet up near O'Hare airport and struck out This morning I was in Indiana again and their only/6 truck was missing what I went there for..... |

I have good exhaust manifold from my 1975 engine. It’s yours if you want to pay shipping on it. When I switched to a two barrel a couple years ago I pulled the two manifolds together. The first thing I’ll need to do is get them separated. |

Used manifolds from the '80s trucks like you have tend to be best |

ok thanks... mine would be ok if the OP hadn't drilled the busted inboard bolt that holds the stack together all the way thru the exhaust manifold.... now there's a 1/2 dollar sized hole in the bottom of the manifold that aint supposed to be there….  :roll

Maybe it's worth doing a temporary weld-up repair to yours. Just so you can evaluate the rest of the motor?

If the hole is 'clean', you can likely tap it and put a plug in it. |

Yeah I thought about that, but way too big of a hole for a plug, it's like they busted out a section. Way bigger than the size of the bolt diameter. Might be able to braze it up, temporarily. Don't have any nickel rod around to weld it. I've asked a few guys that I thought might have something near me (Zilla was my 1st pm) and asked at the swap meet yesterday (mostly the vendors weren't people who I knew). One whom I do know, has a swap coming up in April, unless we get some real horrendous weather between now and then I'd like to hear it run sooner. I'll get it, definitely not here to whine and complain, that has gotten me nowhere in the past haha |

I'll suggest that you don't really need nickel rod to do a repair that only needs to last a few days. Clean it up good, get it real hot with a torch and just MIG (or stick) weld a steel patch over the hole. Once you know the rest of the motor is OK you can keep looking for a good manifold. If the motor is not OK maybe you will end up with a different motor complete with manifolds. |

found a used one from a 76 F body in a local yard. will serve the purpose for now, so I can get the truck to run and "not have to be in a hurry" to find what I really want... (includes more than a 1bbl carb, for starters) |
