This is to all the guys running external oil pumps and/or remote filter mounts on their slants. What size hose would be recommended for this? I am considering -10AN, but I also have some-8AN that would be easier to route in tight bends. Mine will be to a remote filter mount. |

Fro an oil filter In/Out? I'd use #10. No way #6. |

Sorry, that was a typo on my part. I meant to say -10AN or -8AN. Yeah, -6 would be askin for trouble. |

I have -10 on my race setup. Greg |

It's worth noting that the early Slants that use the oil standpipe are necked down to under a #6 size, oddly enough. So while I would never do it, if you did use #6 you wouldn't be completely off base. |

-6AN was a typo on my part. My choices are either -8AN or -10AN. The #10 looks more 'comfortable' to me so I will likely go with that, but the #8 would bend tighter without kinking. Anyway, I was just wondering what sizes you guys used on your cars. |

I experienced high (5000+) RPM oil pressure fall off with a standpipe-equipped oil pump. I replaced the stand pipe with the simple joint and the oil pressure problem went away. I will not be running a standpipe on any of my performance motors again. Lou |

I'm not surprised. It's a tiny hole! I used a standpipe but I made one with a much larger minimum diameter. |

Like Lou, I also had the stock standpipe flow problem. The SUs I run'll happily pass 7 grand when I'm inattentive, and it cost me a couple sets of bearings on my HAMBster before I figured it out (yeah, I can be a slow learner at times). I stopped running one on my daily as well, as on "rare occasion" I've been known to press the pedal a skosh above the need. Eventually I cobbled up a couple standpipe bases with larger pipe welded on, then drilled through. Those're both still in service. Upshot; if going AN I think I agree with you, I'd stick to ten. |

As a "fine point", the factory "stand pipe" assembly is actually a check-valve / standpipe combination and yes, it is pretty restrictive thru the valve. Like others, I have used a large diameter standpipe tube, with-out a check valve and had good results. ( no high RPM oil pressure drop-off and reduced oil filter drain-back) DD |

Where is the check valve? Mine didn't have one....maybe someone tossed it. |

DD is totally on point. I use the short pipe adapter with a filter that has a standpipe, but even then I bored the adapter hole out as it was pretty narrow. That all said, I don't take mine to 5000 rpms. brian |
