In a stock or 9:1 225, no problem, you have about 1/2" to 3/4" reach before the electrode strap contacts the piston face at TDC in the drool tube head...( In the peanut plug head you can't run a late corvette plugs as the reach and threads are too long and will contact the piston at TDC in a stock 225), FYI. |

Yup. That's what makes them work better. As DI explains, there's plenty of room. Don't forget that on a '60-'62 head, you don't remove the metal ring washers from the spark plugs, you leave them on. On '63-'74 heads the ring washers get removed.

Thanks guys for the plug info. I've gotten this far and don't want to make a dum mistake. Motor seems clean under the VC being a '61 model. I have a cpl of Super 6 set ups but unsure if this motor is up for that much work. |

I've never worked on a '60-62 slant, oldest one I have had was a 63. I gotta ask, though I hear about using the metal seal washers in the 60-62 heads and not in any that are newer, what is the difference between a 60-62 head and a 63-74 head to make this difference? (over the years I am sure that someone has put a '63+ head on to a 60-62 block or vise versa) What would one look for on an unknown year head, to tell if that washer gets used or tossed away? |

Much is written about the plug washers and the Slant Six tube..... I'll say this...I've removed plenty of plugs wherein the washer was left in place and used with the tube. Incorrect, indeed, but it sure saves the tube. So the dummies who left the washers 'on' for decades inadvertently preserved the tubes for us today. Look at a tube that has been run washerless and In/Out a dozen times and it's pretty trashed. |

That's funny, I have found the opposite. I think having the washers on there damages the tubes faster than w/o washers. I did run the washers for years and never noticed a difference in any performance or running conditions. Lou |
