ok my 81 lebarron has always been a flatland car untill ive been in omaha for a lil while anyway a few times ive had to back out of a parking spot and up hill where occasionaly i hear a horrid screech and noise from the rear end.. is this just a sighn of bad uinversals or somthing else in showing up?. :?:

My first guess would be the low/reverse band in the transmission. Have you checked that? Be a good idea to give the driveshaft a wiggle and see if there's any freeplay in the U joints, too.

if you don't hear the noise when in any forward gears, I would expect you can eliminate the axle from the equation.

no in forward gears i dont hear anything.. there is a lil play on the driveshaft though.

I believe Jopapa just might have hit this one on the head. Drop the pan and adjust the low/reverse band. Adjust the KD band while you're under there and fresh fluid and filter, and there is a good chance your problem will go away. The sound's probably telegraphing down the driveshaft and seems to come from the rear end.

thanks yeah its due for a oil change just had the transmission flushed and checked less than 5 months ago.
