I was wondering if this would be a good alternative to my 7 1/4? This one is out of a jeep so it is narrow enough for my car and it has the 5x4 1/2" lug pattern. But now the bad news, 4.11 gears in it.

I believe a Dana 44 is 8.5" ring. Used in lots of vehicles, even Corvette used them in '82. It ought to be plenty strong.

What are the chances a jeep having perches in same spot as an A body?

it's pretty easy to move the spring pads - My Dad and I did a rear end for an 86 Mazda - we were using an 84 Rear end that was 3" or so narrower.

cut them off with a grinder, grind the slag off, measure 3 times, weld them back up.

Well the pads are real close, but they're on top of the tubes and I need them on the bottom. I'm just worried about the U-joints not working, i haven't pulled the inspection cover to verify the gearing or if it does have a posi unit.
