Can't you just use a good waterproof thread sealer? On my 52 Plymouth when I had to replace the intake manifold gasket I used a product from NAPA that thoroughly sealed it. Several bolts went into the water jacket. If you need to know what I used I can go look for the can I got.

I've never had one of those leak before. I've always had good luck using white teflon pipe sealant paste though. Be sure to run a tap in the threads in the block and clean the threads on the bolts well.

I just changed the water pump on my valiant yesterday. Had no sign of a leak in that spot. It was just starting to leak from the weep hole.

I have never had problems either. But make sure the hole is clean, use teflon tape and then a little silicone on the threads. Surely shouldn't leak then. Are you sure it's not coming from above? Bypass hose...etc?

Why are your water pumps "wasted" ??

Drain down cooling system, clean and dry offending bolts and their holes to remove anti freeze, oil etc. than apply green Loctite, or pipe dope, or silicon gasket maker, bolt it up, and don't refill cooling system for 24 hours until whatever product you used cures.

By clean I mean wire brush to remove any corrosion on bolt chase bolt hole with tap, de-grease everything with brake cleaner before coating bolt with sealer. Sealer slathered over rust and pits often will not seal.
