I'm gearing up to install one of these devices to replace the OEM unit in the fuel gauge on my '64 Valiant. I've been reviewing some of the posts, and read the article from Mopar Muscle.

However, I need more information on connecting the regulator to the gauge. I believe I have three terminals on the instrument panel. labeled A,I, and S. I need to determine how to connect which terminal to the voltage regulator. Also, I assume it's necessary to destroy the bimetallic contacts within the fuel gauge (to deactivate them) as a part of this process [?]

SlantValiant, I think you have done this upgrade. Can you or someone else give me some tips? Thanks!

Thanks, GT63, but the article section doesn't contain the data I'm looking for. It refers to using the OEM three-prong regulator that came with the '65 and later instrument panel clusters. What I'm aiming to do is to install the $2 integrated circuit voltage regulator one can buy at "Radio Shack" which takes the place of the cheesy 3-prong mechanical device.

Hi Tim,

I am in the same boat. I didn't read the article in MM, so I am hoping that you can tell me what the final solution was, and I can get my Barracuda done as well. Additionally, if you give me a starting point, I can write it up, and give you credit in a new article for the board.

Thanks,
Greg

If you are looking at the regulator with the front facing you, the tab pointing up....

The far left pin is input, this would go to whichever spot on your cluster that was giving the original regulator battery 12v. The middle is ground. and the right pin is the +5v output, this would go to the spot on your cluster which leads to the gauges. It wouldn't hurt to leave the original capacitor on the back of the dash connected between the +5v output and ground.

I will give it a try next week when I get back in town. I'll try to take some pics, and maybe we can add this to the article using the older regulator.

Sorry, your message slipped by me when you first posted it. I'm on the road now, but when I get home I'll send you the pics I took.
