Well someone burst my bubble. Just went to put the last item in the block to finish the rebuild - the Dipstick tube. Inside it hiding is a little plug, or grub screw, approximately 5/16 in size, maybe a 1/4 ? It is an allen key type. It come with the items that the machinist returned to me, with the dowels for the head, and the bigger oil galley plugs. I did not know this extra plug was there so did not look for where it goes. Now I have the timing cover on and the sump, so I can’t easily have another look. They chemically cleaned the block, bored it and fitted new cam bearings. Please can someone tell me where it goes? Is it possible that it does not belong to the engine? |

Could it be a plug for an extra temp port on the front top of the head? Probably 1/8 NPT thread. Post pic? Do you have a drilled oil pressure port on the passenger side oil gallery running along the block in front and to rear of the oil pump? Lou |

ok, hopefully this displays the images of the plug / grub screw I’m talking about. I suspect it doesn’t belong to the engine, but please tell me if there is a chance that it goes somewhere. There is no external extra drilling in the oil gallery, and the head doesn’t have any drillings for it. It is slightly smaller than the temperature sensor thread in the head.
