I am finally changing mine. Before I committed to the cam grind , I would like to know what everybody is running and how the cam performs ,especially in the low /lower rpm ranges. |

Why are you changing your camshaft? If you're going to bother changing the cam and the vehicle is not a truck with the A727 and a 12" torque converter I would go straight to Oregon Cam grinding and ask for the #819 intake lobe, 818 exhaust lobe on 108° LSA. You might want to know that a lot of performance is choked off by the stock carburetor and cylinder head. So again, why are you changing your camshaft? |

what WOULD you suggest with a slant in a truck with an 727 trans? Cuz that's what I have..... along with 3.2 rear gears. I also have a super 6 combo here that will go on. see how that goes and maybe move up from there eventually. current is the stock 85 hydro/cast crank slant but I have a 74 forged crank motor here that I want to beef up and stab in there eventually.... plan on block and head shave, amounts to be yet determined, the cam suggestion would be for the new engine. |

I am not asking for suggestions-I am asking how the cam you have performs. |

That may seem like a simple question but how well any particular cam performs depends a great deal on how well the motor was set up around the design of the cam. |

Trying to avoid a thread hijack. Volaredon- read HEREBack to the regularly scheduled thread topic of how everyone's cam performs. I am running a stock cam (I think) in my 1976 D100. My truck is basically all stock except I added a two barrel carb. It is a 225 backed by a 727 and a 9 1/4 rear axle with 3.9 gears. It is a dog. The engine happily spin fast enough to get the truck up to 70+ on the highway but accelleration in terrible. I am sure I have problems with the carb and transmission, plus the 727 is really too much trans for this engine. Ultimately, I plan on building a higher compression ratio engine and will be switching to a different camshaft. You can do quite a bit with the stock cam in a pasenger car. More benefits come from compression increase and bigger valves or forced indiction than a cam swap. |

Ah, sure. There's a search function for that. Plenty of field reports.
