I have a 1984 d150 with the leaning tower of power,
The transmission needs to be rebuilt but I dont know what it is
There are numbers stamped into the flange where the pan bolts to it and those numbers are:PK4058384 8279 6854, ...if anybody could tell me what transmission I have I would be very greateful. It's an automatic transmission, I think 727 but I'm not sure

That's a 727 with lockup torque converter.

anything important beyond the initial PK number? I have same PK number but last 2 groupings are 8720 7883.
is there a chart somewhere readily accessible for all to see, that is listing of PK numbers?

ok thanks. so really good chance this is original trans to my truck.
The reason I was asking is that when cranking I am getting sounds that make me cringe an think "chipped ring gear teeth". I swapped starters and get same noise. (I have a spare Mopar starter or 3 hanging around, doesn't everybody?) The engine is coming out soon, and I will see for sure. I have a chance to but a B&M Tork master converter for a non lockup 727 brand new/never used for about half of (places like) Summit's price nearby. Being as how mine is apparently a lockup;
1. that TC won't work and
2. apparently there is something screwy inside my original TC, because it runs great ///but just like a non lockup. so the TC will need swapped out for more reasons than just a possible chipped tooth on the ring gear. looks like I'll be going after a "rebuilder's special" as those are the only ones available for a lockup trans.
how low is factory "low stall" and how high is factory "hi stall"? I will probably opt for the hi stall if I don't already have it (I'm thinking mine in there now is the low stall version)

There’s a link on the Transmission FAQ page with the list.

If you were closer I'd definitely be interested in the trans coming out of your rig.
There used to be a well known mopar parts guy/guru not far from me. About 10 years ago I remember he had a pile of NOS 727s among them at least 1 slant 6 unit, something happened and he had to move like pretty quick, I think that i landlord had sold the property where he lived. I remember going by one day and seeing all these gutted 727s, and in particular was one that looked weird to me back then being it was for a slant 6.

Just a guess here but those sequential numbers might be part of the vehicle's VIN number. Sometimes that pad area on the passenger side of the tranny is blank not stamped.
