on my son's 80 D150 (/6, 833 OD) a previous idiot owner hooked the clutch fork spring, to some kind of fence wire or chicken wire/ and wrapped that around the motor mount bracket..... at the mildest, it looks "hillbilly" as all get out/ and more seriously, I'm afraid it might not last. How is that spring supposed to be supported, on the end "away from" the fork? Sorry I don't remember, its been 25 years since I had my last 833 OD equipped truck/ I'm getting that CRS thing, I believe.....

I can check my FSMs and see if I have a truck one close to 1980.

close is probably "good enough," as they put the /6 and 833 OD in D trucks for several years....
I told him to make a bracket out of steel, come off the 2 bolts that hold the brace between the engine and bellhousing (or even just take it off the truck, and weld a tab onto it) put a hole in said tab and hook spring to that.
possibly going on Hot Rod Power Tour in a lil over a month with this truck, got a few little loose ends to tie up on it before that.... definitely don't want trouble on the road, especially with something so cobbled.....

Sorry, Don, no luck. I have van service manuals for 82 and 83, but only truck manuals for 76 and 90. My generic 77-84 Chilton truck manual doesn't cover clutches. I can check my 76 manual for you if you think it will be close enough.

ok thanks guys.... I think I know how we are going to fix this. whether it's "as done from the factory" or not.
(even though I just got word that Power tour isn't happening [cancelled for this year] I still gotta fix this for the kid, before I get a call for "Dad's Road service"...)

well it broke. Luckily right in my driveway. I took the stiffener plate off that bolts from the engine to bellhousing, welded a tab onto that and hooked the spring that the truck came to us with (Original from new? Have no idea) to this tab. nowhere near as "hillbilly" looking and won't break near as easy as a piece of baling wire did.

I have an 82 D-150 with the same power train and I have the FSM for it also. I can get you a photo later today of the spring setup. I play hell posting photos on this site, shoot me your email in a PM and I'll send you the photo.
