I remember seeing talk on here about some place that rebuilds harmonic balancers. Being as how this engine that I am rebuilding Is a 1974, I figure its original damper is due. I remember the 1st word was "damper" (well duh) But in searching google I find "Damper Doctor", and right below it in the Google search list was "Damper Dudes". Is one more reputable than the other? |

I have no experience with these units, but they list for $35.79 plus shipping and tax. https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.ph ... 59&jsn=930 |

judging by the font/print of the numbers engraved into it, that one looks like it came over on the "boat". I think i'd rather take a chance on mine being redone even if it costs roughly the same. I try (yeah I know not always possible) to avoid parts from China..... dont get me started.... I just had to buy a heater core for my 99 Dakota and I couldnt find any replacements that DIDN'T come over on the boat from there.... NOT a job I want to do even once in a vehicle's lifetime, certainly dont want that cloud hanging over this truck hoping that this replacement lasts the rest of the truck's life with me--- however long that might be.

Aren't Damper Dudes and Damper Doctor the same people? I have used a few of the rebuilts. Only issue I had was they put the pulley ring on backwards on one, but they sent out another as soon as I called. |

I've used Damper Doctor on one engine. Product was good and I'm sure it will work for a long time, but I was a little upset to see they used one of those K-Mart sleeves on the snout to 'restore' the sealing surface. I can't stand those, in case you can't tell. A 'real' company in the business should be (if needed) welding up and regrinding the snout. |

Weld and regrind cast iron? At what cost? A 'real' company in the business should be (if needed) welding up and regrinding the snout. |

Might be I'll have to look into that. Recheck the Google search and see if same address/phone number etc between them |

A professional company? Weld/regrind would be cheap. In fact, that's the sort of thing that separates a pro company from a guy in his garage. The capability to perform at a higher level. |
