Hi Gents, progressing with my 225 stock rebuild and after fitting the crank and pistons I noted about shamfering no 1 upper main bearing for timing chain oiling.
None of the 1,2 and 4 bearings had the chamfer nor the red mark. So I guess I need to do the shamfer myself. Appreciate your help on the following questons:
1) can I do the shamfer on the bottom bearing instead on top, as I have already crank and pistons in? I presume I do the shamfer only from the front to the half of the bearing width.
2) how far should I go with the shamfering not to risk too low oli pressure on the bearing leading to a bearing failure, is there any measurment to which I should operate?

Thanks in advance,
Rad, Poland

The OEM main bearings had the chamfer. I have never seen the chamfer on aftermarket bearings. I always file a approx 45 degree chamfer on the front half of the upper shell, to intersect with the oil groove (the factory chamfer went all the way across the shell). I really don't see any reason why you can't do the lower shell. You might want to do a small groove to match with the upper groove. As far as the width, I don't have any dimension, doesn't need to be much. I generally just say "that looks about right" .
