Im a old Moparhead thats into bigblocks, this is my first slant. I've done alot of homework searching for stuff here and other places that I can't find. What Im looking for is............................. 1.Do slants like to have the distrubutor recurved like big blocks do, and if so which springs to use? 2. What do slants like for total timing and at what RPM??? i.e. 36* total all in by 2000 rpm! 3. Been playin with intial timing and haven't found a happy window yet without a high speed ping as the van gets warmer. When totally warm it sucks. Currently running about 6* BTDC. I know I have tons more but the mind is drawing a blank, Thanks |

What year is your Van? Do you know what the total advance is now? In general, the SL6 likes a good amount of initial timing. (8-12 degrees for a stock cam engine) Slants do not like a lot of total, 28 to 32 degrees is the range, your Van will be on the lower end of this range, especially if you run regular fuel. You can set the curve-up to be pretty fast for the first 22-24 degrees, then let the second spring "kick-on" at about 2600 to 2800 and slow the advance down, total should be in by 3000 RPM or so. It is also good to have an adjustable vacuum advance pod and get that set to add in extra light throttle advance. Here is some additional info. http://www.dutra.org/doug/draft-webpage ... ibutor.htm DD |

Its a 69 w/a 67 block, no I don't know what total is. Some follow ups are.............. I have 2 vacuum cans, one says 6.5, the other says 10. which one of these should I use? I've also read about head milling, but cant seem to get something. I need a valve job and looking to get 9.0-1 compression when done. What should the head be milled to, .050, .075 or what? Is there anyplace that sells 1.7 rockers to help bump up my lift? Thanks again |

You need to cc the head to know how much to mill-off in order to get 9 to 1, the combustion chambers are often larger then the 54 cc the factory spec'ed-out. I would mill it .075 with-out a second thought. The Cox Bros. can get the high ratio rockers but they will be roller tipped aluminium arms, race car stuff. DD |

Now that I'm finally turned on and tuned in here!!!!!! Thats what I was thinking on at most milling my head to, I just want something better than the lame 8.4-1 that the book says. Of course I don't know if this head has ever been milled, so .75 it is. Thanks |
