Picked up my freshly bored and honed block last night. Put it on the stand today to do a little grinding/cleanup before it goes in to get tanked, freeze plugs and cam bearings. I got real lucky, I tried taking the plugs out of the ends of the oil gallery and both came out!

What's the purpose of getting it tanked? Just a good cleaning?

It will look remarkably like my last motor. Mopar blue with a chrome valve cover.

Do you notice any difference in performance or noise level with the roller rockers Doug?

They are more noisy but these rocker arms are 1.6 ratio and on a hot engine, that helps a bit.
Roller rockers will not last as long as the factory stuff.

Really? I would think that with the decrease in friction, they'd outlast the factor rockers. What would cut their longevity so much?

Where does one find a chrome valve cover for a slant six, and approximately what will one cost?

Poor oiling on the set I had.

More moving parts and roller tip oiling are the issues.
The way our Slants lean away from the tip, it is hard to get oil up to that area. (the tip is at the highest point, unlike a V8 where the tip is at the low side of the angle)
I use a spray bar and dump oil right on each roller tip, that seems to keep them happy.

Jerry,

I believe you can still get chrome valve covers from Clifford, and I am pretty sure you can get them from the TransDapt catalog (through JCWhitney or Summit or similar). Cliffords should be around $80-100 and the TD one will be around $30 or so. You could also just take a good stock one to a chroming shop and it'd probably be $60 or so.

I have the TD ones on my cars, but I haven't bought one for 5 years or so. Got all of mine from JCW.
