I am in the process of installing a two shiv water pump pulley on my slant six installation.

In playing around I found that the aluminum spacer that originally worked to put the fan blades at the correct depth for the radiator shroud, when put between the water pump and the pump pulley is the correct spacing for having the v-belts aligned with the crank pulley.

I am guessing the aluminum spacer is too soft to endure the pressures involved in this position, is that accurate?

If you seem to need a spacer between the water pump hub and the pulley, there's something wrong. You've got the wrong pulley, or your crank pulley is improperly installed, something like that. Find and fix the problem. The water pump pulley goes directly on the pump hub with no spacer.

Thanks Dan, This is an engine swap accessory drive task and not a stock or factory setup.

I installed a 3 groove harmonic balancer pulley on the crankshaft b/c I am wanting two v-belts on my 100 amp alternator and one for a hydraulic pump to run a snow plow.

Found a two groove water pump pulley to make it work, and the last aspect is to get the depth correct. Guessing I will need to visit a machine shop to have them craft a steel spacer that is identical to my aluminum spacer.

Is the Al-U-minimum spacer solid, or does it have large recesses between the cap screw pass-through sections? If it's solid, or You find one that is, it should be just fine. The quality of the cap screws would be most important. How thick is this spacer?

They make thin spacers to move your pulley if your only talking a little bit

You might be better / safer finding another double groove pulley for chevy/ ford / mopar sb/ bb and just flip it around backwards.

I was thinking that I would need a steel spacer for endurance.

Is the general consensus that a solid aluminum spacer would work? It would be quite a bit lighter, which might be good for the water pump's lifespan.
