A heater delete kit turned up in my eBay slant six search engine. I tried it out and it looks great. When I bought my truck, the heater delete hose was around 8 feet long. I cut a good size chunk of it out a while ago, but now it's 8 to 10 inches. Clean!

Kit? I hope this was quite cheap for you, as there is no "kit" needed to do a heater delete. Just cut down one heater hose and loop it to the other nipple, might even be able to reuse your existing clamps!
Then remove the remaining heater hose completely.

The kit is not needed but it is a much cleaner, factory looking design as opposed to a looped piece of hose. The kit's pre-formed hose tucks in close to the block and out of the way of all belts (and hoses).
Jus sayin...

If you want it even cleaner and tighter, why not cap off both connections? Does the short (2-3") hose not give enough recirculating flow with the thermostat closed?

Some folks remove the hvac unit / heater box from inside the car completley, and then just remove the pipe nipple from the head.. replace it with a plug and then also tap and plug the port on the water pump as well.

"Heater delete" was a factory option for cars exported to Finland at mid 60's. This was true because high import taxes. Parts not installed were not taxed at the borders. Not even the missing parts came with the car in the trunk. At that time many countries took US cars totally in parts and put them together locally.

SO there was a "heater delete" option.

Back in the '60's and '70's, almost every car could be ordered with or without any thing you wanted or didn't want.
A friend of mine found a 67 Dart 2 dr sdn, with a 170 engine 3 speed on the columm, heater delete, back seat delete.

I'm not sure when a heater became standard equipment, but I'm sure it varied by make and model. I've got to admit that I remember when used car classified ads often boasted of their car being equipped with a heater. It seems like it was mostly 40's and 50's cars. Evidently it could be deleted much longer than that. I'd think it would highly desired for street use, especially in the northeast.

Sure. But here more north than Alaska no one can operate a car without heater. For low taxes (great idea) missing parts were shipped separately in the trunk (clever idea, easy to find and install).

Exactly! In order to save taxes, Chrysler assembled cars in Switzerland until 1972.
