My question is if their is a 5 speed that will bolt on. Or what can I do for a faster top speed. 80 mph

Tell us more about your truck. Is the transmission an OD currently? What gear ratio is the rear. 2 barrel carb? Lean burn still on the engine?

No "bolt in" 5 speed

Even though there is no direct bolt in the np
A-535/nv2500 from an early dakota would be the most hassle free swap. Should use the same bellhousing clutch tob and everything else.

Good luck!

That transmission bolts to a slant 6 bell?? Maybe I misunderstood.

Charrlie should know for sure.. he has actually laid hands on these transmissions.. I have not.
I**(think)** the mounting bolt pattern and Bearing retainer is the same as the 833.. But I could be mistaken... Thinking for me is more like assuming... so Take it for what it's worth.

These transmissions are not too common although they have 1"x23 Input splines and other goodies similar to the 833 on the front end.

I wonder if the original poster has a NP435 or an 833 OD in his truck.

Some pictures of the transmission or shifter / hump area would be helpful.

top speed of 60 seems like some other engine issue - not the transmission.

It's a slant six with 1 BBL carb
Not sure if it's in over drive. And how can I check the rear end? I could give you the vin would that help?

I'll send a picture in a bit. What could be the engine issue?

Could be anything from worn / Loose timing chain, valves, Rings, But more likely Ignition system / timing or Carb Tuning. Could be a bent push rod as well.

I doubt it's valve adjustment if it is a hydraulic Lifter Head and Cam/Valve gear.

More than likely it's the push rods. How many push rods come in a slant six? 12?

Yes there should be 12.

If you are actually missing a pushrod somehow, the engine would run horrible.

I have that trans in my '77 D200..
4.10 Rear Gear Ratio with 235 85 16 Tires

It will do 100Mph or more..

The engine is quite wound up but it will do it.

Also do you happen to know the size of the shift knob threads so I can buy another shifter.
