I have a78 Volare Premier 4 door that I got 4 years ago. Car only has 78K and has zero rust or damage to it in any way. always had problem with idle and smell of gas all the time. last year had the original BBD carter 2 bbl completely rebuilt by a guy who builds racing engines for modified racers in the area so he knows what he is doing. Carb is the original 8137S wit the tag. Here the problem still have the same as before smell of gas all the time. Had the mixture worked on by a shop and the idle is better but if ac on stall at every light. When at idle looking down carb I can see fuel weeping from ventures and dripping fuel. Anyone have any idea what I can do to get this cleared up. hanks in advance for any help. Mike |

Not a carb guy, but I would check the needle and seat on the inlet. Maybe the float. There are different ones sold for BBD carbs and the rebuilder may have used an incorrect one. Or other needle problem. I have a rebuilt commercial BBD in reserve that has a very alien type in it that would not work in an original set up. Otherwise, on a BBD that old, they were known for wearing out throttle shaft bores. I think I have that same model BBD on my '82 truck for several years. An ancient Tomco rebuild that's been great. |

8137s worked on a few them. Clogged or restricted idle tubes will cause this. Do not know why. 8137s has idle tube opening or slow speed jet .0295 decimal inches .075 mm. Thats real small does not take much to restrict its flow. 8137s has venturi cluster screw 101-569 air bleed .063 a small one perfect. Also has economiser .059 number 53 drill bit. Economiser is steel bushing rust. Idle tube brass corrosion. Get those drill bits from grainger or zoro and return your carb to it orignal dimensions. Your idle jet is big enough with .063 air bleed. |

Matv91, Are the 78 model year's supposed to have the idle kickup solenoid for A/C like the '79 Super Sixes with Factory A/C Did? That may help out with the Idling in Gear at a Light Issue for the original Poster. Greg |

Did some checking, from what I can tell they did not.Better to get 79 carb to replace or parts to convert current carb. Only one case of stalling because of head pressure in ac system, not bad carburetor. Long time ago, do not remember but i think bleed off excess freon lowered pressure, fixed but memory not clear. |

No specs from carter or chrysler for fuel level. So this is just guess work. Fuel above gasket line red dots in picturee, leak prone. Guess fuel level should be at least 1/32 below gasket line and 1/32 above accelerator pump ball seat, green dots in picture. |
