I remember seeing, somewhere, possible lists of Mopar special tools as noted in service manual text. Some are special suspension, brake and others including engine tools. This question comes up to me because I may be removing the slant and 3 speed transmission from my '63 Dart wagon. I wonder if anyone could lead me to special tool lists and especially tool C-3806 fixture for hooking to, I think, the two holes in the head which are for pulling the engine. I am making pictures in my mind of how trhe tool might look. Not so sure that it would be helpful to me but my curiousity has driven me into this search. A photo of this tool and any others would be neat. Thanks Jerry |

though they might be "nice to have", that's about it. Many cars have been fixed over the years without those special tools. Yes some might be necessary, some "would be nice" and still others absolutely not necessary to maintain your car. The one you ask about, I've seen pix of before.... but a chain bolted to those same 2 holes in the head works just fine. |

I agree, it's just nice to have those old special tools but not necessary. I've build many special tools over the decades, usually by finding pictures and making my own. Some special tools I've made just to make things easier--often for holding things in place while working alone.The one you ask about, I've seen pix of before.... but a chain bolted to those same 2 holes in the head works just fine. My curiosity about the C-3806 is just that, curiosity. Thanks for the response. Jerry |

I made a tool similar to that recently to "hold" my engine/ trans up when I took the k frame and front suspension out from underneath. For what you want to do.. not needed. Not great pictures.. but you get the Idea..  20190112_125608 by Hyperpack, on Flickr 20190112_125624 by Hyperpack, on Flickr

Rick Covalt has one and a friend made one for me. Rick has also posted diagrams for measurements to make one.

Hey guys, thanks for the pictures. Very helpful. They are much like the picture in my mind. I'm considering removing engine and transmission as a unit, so with two hook-up loops the dangle angle can be adjusted. The U shaped for hooks look quite substantial. The reversible one is interesting. Probably 1/4" steel plate? Maybe 3/16"? !/8 might bend pretty easily, I don't know. I don't know which design I'll try--if I have to pull the engine and I hope not. The two lifting points are designed for either engine only (front loop) or engine and transmission together (rear loop). It is still helpful to have an adjustable lifting apparatus to move the weight distribution. Just be careful not to have too much height to the whole arrangement or your engine hoist may not be able to lift it high enough to clear the radiator support. Ask me how I know...
