Post subject:  New Clifford intake quality?

Since I haven't had much luck finding a used Clifford 4bbl intake I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on a new one. The one that got stolen was an NOS one probably 25 years old, and the casting on it was less than spectacular. Are the new ones any better?

Thanks!

'Zilla; Before you get too anxious and order that thing. I've got to leave tomorrow for Michigan, and will be gone until next Friday. I've got a few intakes, but don't remember exactly whether they're Offy or Clifford. Let me look at them after I get back, and maybe we can make an arrangement.

Didn't know you were looking.....Roger

A few years ago, Clifford relocated its operations from California to Maine. Not sure if they are still trying to use the same foundries they did while in California or found some on the East Coast to use. If they are still using the same ones, the quality is probably the same plus a higher cost to ship them to their new base on the East Coast is likely. Maybe you could contact them directly to ask where their products are being cast since they've moved....

Well I'll be. I never picked up on Clifford's move to middle of nowhere western Maine. Maine ain't known for its foundries, so he probably is still using the same one or ones as previously. I could be all wet though. Hard tell'en no know'en.

This Weber intake I am working with is warped also.
Valve cover has a little warp too.

Just for fun, I went to the Clifford website and looked up the warranty info. They do a good job of distancing themselves from any responsibility for anything on the website.. NO idea if that is why the moved to Maine... but I would not purchase anything directly from them. If I HAD to have a Clifford part, I would try to get it though summit racing or something like that.

Thanks for the comments everyone. Trust me, ordering anything from Clifford frightens me. I still believe he takes orders until he gets enough to have a run made. Could be a week, could be a year.

Hopefully Roger and I can work a deal.

'Zilla; Didn't forget, just got busy. Thought I had three, but only two. I have both, a Clifford and an Offy. However, the Clifford has been drilled for, and EFI bungs installed, into the runners right next to the head flange. I had started prepping for a DiBias conversion.

Neither has the original adapter plate with it. I do have a self-made two barrel adapter on the Offy manifold.
