i think i would like to run a roller in my next motor - where will i get a pump drive gear? also where can i find flow numbers on intakes, what are the port openings on the aussie intakes. thanks |

Are you talking about wanting to run a roller timing chain set? Or are you talking about a roller camshaft? As far as intakes go, I'm not sure there are any actual flow numbers on just the intake runners? I'm sure we can come up with some measurements though. I believe the concensus says that the Clifford is the best 4 barrel manifold for high performance What is your goal with this engine? |

roller cam i am looking at about 300hp na . the offy i have has ports about .25 smaller than the head. does the race at fairlawn usually have many racers? |

Roller camshaft will take a lot of custom work for sure. Sorry I'm no help there. 300HP is a lot of slant 6 horsepower  You will need a very good head to get there and the Clifford intake for sure. The Offy has too small of runners as you mentioned.Not sure how many will be at Motor Mile next month but if you are close you will definitely want to come out. Lou Madsen is hosting and is a super nice guy with a huge wealth on info on going fast. Is this going to be a drag car? |

drag car. it ran 13.20s 35 years ago at 3100lbs. some pain in the ass kids are forcing me to bring it back out, so i want to improve it a bit. i could easily be talked out of the roller if i had faith in the flat tappet cams of today. im about 5 hr away from fairlawn - spent alot of time in that area years ago scouring junkyards and making poor decisions. |

Many of us are using Oregon cams to do regrinds on known good cams and keeping the oil pump gears with those cams that they have already ran on. The oil pump gears seem to be where the issues are. I think the roller cam takes a lot more things than just the cam to make it work. Someone on here was having a roller cam ground and they were quite expensive. If you have gone 13.2's at 3100# you are already making some good power for sure! Congrats. Are you putting it in the same car or a lighter one? At 2700# you should be in the mid 12's. |

Welcome to the forum, Many folks have made good power and Fast ET's with the proper amount of added lightness. Some have gone deep into the 11's with a flat tappet camshaft. Where are you located? Cheers! Greg |

thanks goldsboro nc .oregon wants 750. for the cam and the rest i guess would run about as much. when i was doing these ,the gear wasnt a problem with a melling cam (rpd-3),direct connection , or racer brown - i just made sure the cam thrust was good - lucky? i want to keep the car steel but would like to get a fiberglass hood. there is so much more available today than when i was doing it. |

Sounds like a great car and we'd love to see you at Motormile in Fairlawn, VA. Sorry I have not returned your call yet - very busy week. Will do that soon. What else is in your car? 13.20 at that weight is quite good for NA. The Clifford 4bbl intake has the biggest ports of common intakes and will rev higher and make more HP than most anything. Aussiespeeds are good and are in the middle between an Offy and Clifford. Not many folks have run a roller cam, and it is not clear how much there is in that. I can talk flat tappet cam grinds when we get a chance. The oil pump gear is somewhat of a crapshoot, but I have never lost one and I only use regrind cams and stock used (or old stock - pre-1995) pumps. Slant on, Lou |
