Finally getting around to assembling the engine for my A100 pickup. Need to know the correct ring end gap. Stock motor .030 over.

I'm of the belief that stock pistons and rings come with the gap already set.. Unless you are going to be running a power adder, such as nitrous, or a charger of some type.

Rule of thumb is .004" gap per inch of bore. Double for power adders.

On occasion one might find the rings one has bought happen to present with an appropriate gap in the cylinders one is working with, but beyond that there is nothing such as rings with a pre-set gap. These aren't spark plug gaps we're talking about; ring gap is a function of how the rings are made and the exact, precise diameter of the cylinder. That's why the correct procedure is to check the gap of each ring in its intended cylinder.

Dan, essentially you are correct, but there are a few exceptions. Hypereutectic pistons do require an adjustment to ring gap, which is different than cast or forged pistons.
