been awhile since ive been on here....sold my 61 v100 2dr 3spd floor shift a few years ago....im getting the bug again, i just found and bought a 7 1/4 axle with sure grip and 3:90 gears (chicken lip rare and only an hour from me : ) . anyway ive found a 65 v100 170 auto....i was thinking of throwing the sure grip unit in it......but i want it to burn some rubber....is it feasable with the 170 (no turbo,or nos)....just intake / exhaust and trans kit....??? would be running 13's or short 14s street tires.....thanks for any suggestions.....ss

Not without a high stall converter. Just remember, what hurts a 7 1/4 rear is "shock loading". Like when a wheel is spinning, and then grabs traction. I ran 7 1/4 rears for years, without problems (even with slicks and/or nitrous), but that was also when you could get repair parts for them.

You might want to check and see what year it is. If I'm not mistaken, the later 7 1/4 shur grips were the "cone" style and only had 2 spider gears. The clutch type had 4 spider gears. I would never consider a 7 1/4 with only 2 spiders. Regardless, parts for any 7 1/4 rear are hard to find, and SG parts even more so. If you're going to beat on the rear forget a 7 1/4.

Small bolt pattern?
The 7 1/4 in my 76 Dart was Big Bolt with 10 inch drums.

This is the case on the disc brake cars. Front drum cars were small bolt pattern.

I was told after Jan 1 1976 all A Bodies got BBP and Front Disks.
A1 on the fender tag.
