Are new rocker arms available for my 63 Valiant (170) slant six engine? Can't seem to find a source. I had my head rebuilt and would like to install new rocker arms and even the shaft if possible |

You really Shouldn't need new ones unless yours are badly worn or so Gross and grody that the internal oil passages are not flowing oil. Hot tank / molasses etc, might be a good way to get rid of all of that nasty on them. I seem to remember that Rockauto had those available, but no longer. Not sure if any of the other engine supply houses have them. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. |

I have some NOS, and NORS parts on hand, but they wont be at "fire sale" prices. Another option is Rocker Arms Unlimited http://www.rockerarms.com/ They can rebuild your arms and shaft. |

When I get ready to re-install the rocker shaft and arms, is there a particular orientation? (right, left) or are they all the rockers the same, side to side? |

Rocker arms are all the same. The shaft has to be installed with the oil holes pointing down, and angled to the valve springs. PS: There is a difference in the shaft for the hydraulic and solid lifter valve trains. |

Get your machine shop to "hot tank" the rockers and shaft to get the gunk out and off. Lou |

Yellaterra has been making new extruded aluminum rocker arms at a price that reflects their role as small volume niche racing parts. That's the only new source, but there are a few NOS ones floating around. I have a couple spares myself, but not a full set. If you do not have any real wear issues, just have yours cleaned up. |

Thank you: The rockers actually look pretty good, I don't see any obvious issues; I'm gonna take it all apart and clean things up, maybe hot tank parts as suggested. |

You can soak them in Chemtool carb dip or something similar too, then blow them out with carb cleaner to make sure the passeges are open. Lou |

RAS also has aluminum rockers available.

.025 Mig wire works as a good cleaning implement for tiny holes. I think the shaft has removable plugs on the ends kinda like freeze plugs. |

I think the shaft has removable plugs on the ends kinda like freeze plugs. Yes it does (mig wire) and yes they do (shaft End Plugs). But if the arms are manufactured poorly (misaligned stampings) the wire will get kinked / stuck - I have had a few bad ones where that had happened. |

I wouldn't buy new OE style rocker arms even if they were sold...unless they happened to be NOS from the production days. If they were still sold...they'd be Chinese and of dubious quality. For the money....send them to RAS and have them reconditioned. It's the cheapest and best way to get a 'new' set of rockers and they will also take care of the shaft, too. |
