63 Valiant: does anyone know of an aftermarket radio that will fit the dash of my car? The knob holes are 6" on center. Thank you |

There are several aftermarket radios for old cars that have adjustable knob spacing. Look at Classic Industries radio selection for a sample of what is available. |

You may have to cut the large opening slightly, you see many had this done in the 60s and 70s to get common radios at the time to fit. |

Flea bay has lots of good vintage radios. I could of gotten an all origal radio for mine. Unfortunately, for me, AM radio band is quite obsolete where I'm at with only political talk or news with occasional sports events thrown In. NO music whatsoever. For my application a different fm radio works perfectly since Dash was modified a little to accommodate a newer radio that wasn't there. Now I have a cool looking vintage AM/FM period radio with pushbuttons that fits the personality of the car. Look for something listed as tested and at least working. Knowing a repair place if unit needs tuneup or ever service helps. Some prices too high, some good units cheap looking just to liquidate . Great to have tunes going down the road. I also found the perfect replacement for my antenna same as one already there with great vintage style. The best thing about antenna is that the mast is taller for improved reception over the original yet mast is can be removed for car car cover or avoid damage. The antenna is common and cheap. The best thing -any bad mishap happens to antenna. Just order a new one and don't have to deal with full installation anymore, just screw in the new antenna mast replacement.. Awesome classic look and fit too. |

I have had good luck using units that either plug into the antena jack on the back of the radio and then into an MP3 player or that plug into an MP3 player and then broadcast on an unused FM or AM station. Keep the good looks and sound of your original deck and don't molest your dash. |

Similar to taymans that Dan links to in his other post, I have used Retro Radio Restoration in elizabethtown,PA https://retroradio.biz/ Mike did an am fm conversion on my '62 valiant's stock radio. He is currently working on one for my '69 dart as well. Greg |
