Hi Charrlie, Greg is this someone you might know? https://www.cbsnews.com/pittsburgh/news ... 3Ty0xZV0PE I saw that on FABO. I was not familiar with that man's name or vehicle. It says he is from IRWIN, but the Irwin Zipcode is vast and includes several other areas. This is pure speculation on my part.. it seems that there was a medical event during the run or that he had a throttle sticking situation somehow, The Sand trap at the end of Keystone goes over a cliff into a forested area beyond the catch net. I have yet to make it out to Keystone at all this year. Maybe next year. Condolences to the family, wife, and small children who have lost their husband /father. We all hate to hear about these things. Be thankful for and take your safety equipment seriously, as you never know when you will need it. Greg |

RIP Racer. We get lulled into thinking nothing bad will happen to us racing, but drag racing can be a dangerous sport when something goes wrong. |

Drag racing is probably one of the safest forms of motor sports, and safer than driving on the highway. But things can still go wrong. We get lulled into thinking nothing bad will happen to us racing, but drag racing can be a dangerous sport when something goes wrong. Problem might not even be with you or your car, but with the other person. |

Yes, if you are running a 12.99 Slant 6 Car Dialed in against an 8-second rail in the 1/4 mile you may only be going ~105 at the finish line, but that rail will be going 160 and if he gets wiggly and somehow comes into your lane you need that safety equipment in our slower cars. |

Many years ago, I ran at a track (don't remember where or when) that would not allow two vehicles to run against each other if the comparable trap speeds were more than a certain amount apart. I thought it was a good idea, even though it hurt me, as many times I couldn't run for overall eliminator, since I was only running about 70 mph. More than once I have seen the faster car in my mirror cross the center line behind me. But I have been lucky over the years. Never got hurt racing. Had a car wrecked in the pits from a out of control race car, and some minor injuries working on cars, but nothing in the car. |

Yeah, anything can happen, but drags are very safe overall. I have had minor injuries from car wrecks (I was not driving), but only on public roads and never in any kind of racing. Cuts and bruises from working on cars - thousands! Lou |

Biggest gap I have had was my stock Duster at US41 against a blown altered in No Box. Trap speeds were exactly 100 mph apart. Didn't bother me a bit, but I was much younger then. I've had a couple minor fires and a couple close calls, but knock on wood, no wrecks. Buddy of mine had a 396 Chevelle explode a flywheel next to his 427 Fairlane in the lights. Piece of flywheel came through the driver's side back window. I had one of my old Z-1 Kawasakis decide to go left at Mason County and ride the centerline for awhile right next to a buddy's 340 Dart. That was "interesting". |
