Post subject:  Carpet info?

I will be getting new carpet for in the Valiant, which I will probably install next winter when I do the 4 speed swap. I was wondering if anyone has any info on what brand of carpet works well. Has a good fit...etc. I see some that have a different backing on the carpet to help with sound absorbtion for @ $75 more. Any info greatly appreciated. Since I have time I can probably get anything I need at Carlisle this coming spring.

Rock Auto seems to have a good selection of carpets.

I have never ordered any for my projects yet.

The Mass Backing is similar to what is OE in newer cars and is heavier.

I would not trust RockAuto on anything like a carpet, especially not with the added complication of a 4-speed swap. Too much specialty knowledge required and definitely not present anywhere at RockAuto, given their inability to get it right on even something much simpler, a radiator.

For carpets and associated interior stuff, I had consistently good success (and good knowledge) from stockinteriors.com .

Thanks Dan. Rock Auto is just reselling ACC stuff. They do list 4 speed carpets for 63-66 A bodies everywhere I looked.

Yes, pretty much all carpet for every old American car in the known universe seems to be made by ACC.

ACC will send you little 2" square samples if you wish, for matching color and texture.

ACC's prices on their site have gone shockingly high, but RA has the exact same designations and color choices, from ACC, listed for considerably less, so that's where I plan to buy mine in the near future.

And I see no reason not to buy the mass backing. It could make your floor look just the tiniest bit more "bulky," but the odds are that it looks a lot flatter now, after half a century of boots, water, and ice, than it did when it came out of the factory.

UPDATE: I did buy my carpet from RockAuto. As above, it was listed as an ACC carpet on RA's site.
It was drop-shipped from ACC in Arkansas (if I recall), in an ACC box, just like other ACC carpets I've bought and appears to be of good quality, with appropriate features.

I haven't actually installed it yet, but will update when I do.
