I'm building a 225 with cast crank but i'm having a heck of time finding cast rods for it. I do however have multiple sets of forged rods. Has anyone machined their forged rods to fit on a cast crank? |

the later cast crack uses a narrower connecting rod than the earlier forged crank does. i don't remember the difference but i think it it's going to require a lot of thinning. i do believe doug dutra did do it in one of his engines that is documented here in the engine section https://www.slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=41320 found it |

It is not a case of just making the rod the correct width. The bearing notch will need to be put in the correct location. I suggest you put a part wanted ad on this site, and also on FABO.

one of the tv shows did a slant build with forged crank rods on a cast crank. It is one their youtube channel. I can't remember if it was horsepower tv or powernation, but I watched it some time ago. There are a few "sponsored" channels that like to throw money at their builds with parts that would be over 10K if they had to buy any of them instead of getting freebies for adverts. |

mcnoople the build I remember was a forged crank in a cast block spacers on the main thrust bearing was all that was needed. |

You may be right, my memory gets fuzzy when I see that money those shows throw at their projects lol.
spacers on the main thrust bearing was all that was needed. |

And you'll also have to cut a chamfer back in both sides of the rod for clearance of the crank radius....it can be done, but unless you can do it yourself will a milling machine or lathe a shop would charge you much more than you could buy a set for. Plus, you'd need to recondition them afterwards if you weren't planning on it as well.... |

Unless you are doing something really crazy, stock rods will hold up very well. |
