FYI and help. I recently sorted out that my sometimes not starting cold issue is the ignition pickup wires being ancient and brittle. So I ordered what I thought would be a no brainer option, the Standard brand LX103. The wires from the coil to the piece that clips into the distributor body are too short. dOnly sorted that out after it's all apart. They would have to literally go through the reluctor wheel to get to the slot. I'm of course returning it but I am still without a reliable part. (always great putting the part you were junking back in because it works and the new one doesn't.) Can someone please tell me an alternative replacement part that's better quality or at least fits? Thanks, Daryll ps I did not search for similar messages. Forgive me if this is redundant to something posted maybe yesterday. I just don't have it in me today. |

Crickets, eh? I'll take that as a no. Well, I found a NOS mopar version on ebay. So much better than the Standard one. Both plates instead of one. And amazingly, the wires are really supple. Bonus, it was less money. |

Standard was a good company at one time, but no more. They sell garbage. I found a bad batch of voltage regulators in several part stores. Called Standard to tell them they had a problem. They not only told me they knew about the bad parts, but they never pulled them off the shelf. They were still in my local store 3 months later. I will never buy a Standard branded part again. |

Get an old-stock American-made pickup from Old Car Parts Northwest. Probably not listed on their website, which shows a tiny fraction of the parts they have. Contact them (email and phone, not sure which works better these days) and ask. |

Just an FYI. The distributer pickup coil for the six cyl and the V-8 will look identical, and will physically fit each other, and will work. However they are different part numbers, and if you look at the wires the colors are different (that is how you can tell the difference). I made some phone calls to try and find out exactly what maks them different, and it is the impedance of the coil. I don't know what effect this has as far as operation, but if someone wants to take the time, hook each one up to a scope, and check the wave form. It probably has something to do with one reluctor haveing six teeth and the other have 8 teeth, which would equate to a time difference, between pulses at the same rpm. |

I have several of those, older stock, I think mine are Niehoff brand. I need to find some similarly old stock 70 up voltage regulators. Needing 2 for current projects and at least 2 more for the trunk/ glove box. |

Well, there's these, and these, and these, but now there's also these.

I've lost faith in Standard parts quality recently. An ECU was bad out of the box, and all the starter relays in the store were stamped with the wrong part number. They were replaced with good parts, but it's a pain making extra trips to the store when it's twelve miles away. |

I like the transpo adjustable units. I use them with the 90-120 amp nipondenso alternators.

I have used the transpo adjustable chrysler VR with good results as well. |

I've had good results with a Transpo adjustable regulator (on an old BMW motorcycle), too.– Eric |
